Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen was an athlete of natural talent and was a fan of tough athletic games. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her interest in sport. This was apparent when she received each Feis to show and play that Ireland had to offer. In the year 14 she was accepted to the famed Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater as well as operatic singing. Charles Laughton became captivated with Maureen's hauntingly gorgeous eyes after he saw a screen-test. Before casting her to star as a character in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton and his partner, Erich Pommer, changed her name instead of Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" which is a more concise name for the marquee. Under contract to Laughton, Maureen's next picture was set to be shot at home in America (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1939)) through RKO Pictures. Maureen could buy her contract with Laughton after the film was an enormous success. Maureen was 19 when she starred with Laughton in two of her films.
