Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. For a child with Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents and family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen arrived in this nurturing sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. Her family was the family of her parents. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons is the second child from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out this wonderful family. Maureen was a great athlete and played rough, athletic games as a child. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural talent for performing. It was evident by her getting almost every Feis awards for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. At age fourteen, she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
